im not too sure what goes into smoothies along with fruit, so…
we have strawberries, grapes, oranges, an apple (not sure how fresh), and various flavours of yoghurt. we also have milk?
and maybe, if it helps, pink grapefruit+blood orange juice.
i dont know if this would make a very nice smoothie but we have a proper juicer/blender:)
Strawberries, oranges, orange juice, ice, and a little plain yogurt makes a great smoothie.
4 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Mistake Your Blender For A Wheatgrass Juicer
You may think that to make your fresh batch of nutrient rich wheatgrass juice it is enough to stuff your household blender with enough wheatgrass and press the button. The following few paragraphs are going to reveal the cons of using your blender in such a purpose.
Wheatgrass is all the rave these last few decades – and for a good reason. Pound for pound it contains more nutrients than most of the other green vegetables. These nutrients can be sorted into following groups: minerals, vitamins and enzymes.
Enzymes are the ones that are the most valuable because they play a huge role in all the chemical reactions that occur in our bodies.
Another valuable wheatgrass nutrient is chlorophyll. It’s claimed that it can boost your immune system, make your energy levels soar and can be used to heal wounds faster, among other things.
These two valuable substances, that basically represent the essence of the wheatgrass, need to be “harvested” carefully, because they are very unstable and very easily oxidize, which brings me to the aforementioned reasons:
1. Blenders’ blades spin too fast. At around 1000RPM, these blades cause a lot of friction, which in turn causes a lot of heat that oxidizes these nutrients thus rendering them worthless.
2. Blenders get jammed. If you put enough wheatgrass in your kitchen blender, due to its high fiber content, it will get jammed. You’ll have to stop and dismantle it and remove the clogged material. This is a huge annoyance.
3. Blenders have a short life span. High RPM and a lot of friction create A LOT of wear and tear. It is just not designed to be used as a wheatgrass juicer.
4. Blenders are noisy as hell. Wheatgrass juicing is supposed to be a pleasant experience. Being subjected to the noise levels equal to those of a single engine Cessna is not my idea of a great time.
The market is overrun with many different wheatgrass juicer types, makes and models with a lot of hype. It is very hard to make the right decision. The last thing you want is to get stuck with something that can’t do the job properly.
